Mesfin Gutu
Biography
Ministry
Mesfin Gutu [መስፍን ጉቱ] is a gospel worship singer deeply loved among Ethiopian evangelical believers. Across many years of ministry, he has become known for Amharic mezmur that feel both intimate and congregational — songs people carry into prayer, church, and everyday life.
When he released his first cassette, he was associated with Hibret Amba Kale Heywet Church in Addis Ababa. From those early days, his calling has remained clear: to worship God and strengthen the church through song.
Testimony
In interviews and talk shows — including Nikodimos Show, Kiya Talk Show, and Berhan Tube — Mesfin has openly shared the harder parts of his story. He speaks about seasons of deep suffering, including a near-death experience in which doctors warned that he was unlikely to survive, and about the grace of God that brought him through.
That testimony is not separate from his music. It is part of why his worship carries weight: he sings as someone who has walked through pain and still chooses to praise.
Music & catalog
Mesfin has released nine albums to the public, building a catalog that stretches from early works like “ደስ ደስ አለኝ, Vol. 2” and “Talefe Ya Zemen, Vol. 4” to later projects including “Negen Ayalehu, Vol. 7,” “ክብር አለ ከፊቴ, Vol. 8,” and “ከለላዬ, ቁጥር . 9.”
In conversation with ETV Entertainment, he spoke about the heart behind “ያላለፈ ምን አለ?” — a song that took eight years to come into being. That patience shows in much of his work: songs shaped by prayer, process, and lived faith, not just quick releases.
Recent singles such as “ግድ ነው,” “እልልታ,” and “አንተ የኔ” continue that path, while his live worship and gospel outreach across Ethiopia keep the ministry close to the people.
